Cornerstone Mission Statement

United Ministries in Higher Education-Cornerstone is an ecumenical mission of the United Methodist Church, the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A), The United Church of Christ, and the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), engaged in a common ministry at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. The campus is our parish.

As part of the universal Body of Christ, we are called to be witnesses of God's presence and purposes amid the life, work, and people of the campus- to nurture in that life signs of God's active grace.

We are committed to:

help create safe spaces- intellectual, emotional, spiritual as well as physical- where persons will be challenged and encouraged to explore and grow through worship, prayer, relationships, study and community service.
support persons of our faith community and of the whole campus community- students, faculty and staff- in their personal and social needs, and in their quests for meaning, for meaningful vocation, and for realization and celebration of the awe and mystery at the core of life.
help in building a university community that celebrates diversity and inclusiveness, and strives for justice for all. Our ministry stands in the midst of campus life. We walk with its people on their journeys. We embrace the freedom to struggle and play, anchored in the joy and hope of belonging to Jesus Christ. Through our living and sharing the love of God in Jesus Christ our community is defined- always dynamic, always hopeful, always looking beyond and challenging, in love, the status quo in both Church and campus.
